I love the face on this silver daddy or silver fox. This homoerotic Portrait of a Monumental Silver Fox with Muscular Shoulders and Gray Chest Hair, portraits like this are one of my favorite things to paint and draw. This goes all the way back to my childhood when I had a wonderful teacher in junior high school who invited me to stay late after school and he spent an hour and a half going over the proportions of the face and the individual features of the face. This lesson was so inspiring that for years after that I spent a good part of my free time drawing interesting and beautiful faces out of magazines and photo books for years. When I got older, I learned the fundamentals of figure drawing and painting and I was able to grow expand my repertoire but faces are still a favorite subject for me. In this case, sometimes you just have to do a character study of an interesting face.

A ‘daddy’ type in their 40s/50s/60s, with either graying or more normally totally grey/white hair. Some may just refer to these people as ‘daddies’ and this is a lesser used term. It is generally used to describe someone in the third person or online rather than as nickname or to their face in a serious context.

Fox is a word that has not just one positive anthropomorphized quality, but two: cleverness and attractiveness. A term with a more specific positive connotation is silver fox, generally meaning “an attractive middle-aged man having mostly gray or white hair.” Smoldering look not required.

The paint on this is super thick and the painting is very textured. The arty term for this is "impasto." Impasto is a technique used in painting, where paint is laid on an area of the surface thickly, usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. Paint can also be mixed right on the canvas. When dry, impasto provides texture; the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas.

Wow. I've admired Kenney's work for a while, and decided to purchase this work as a gift for a friend. Seeing his work in person is totally different from seeing the photos online... the textures and colors are beautiful. Too bad for my friend, I'm keeping this one for myself! It was packed very very well and arrived in perfect shape. Highly recommended!
